FLCC announces wine classes for April

Finger Lakes Community College and the New York Wine and Culinary Center have partnered to offer five single-session wine education classes in April.

Classes vary by topic, duration and price and are held at the New York Wine and Culinary Center, 800 S. Main St. as follows:

April 7, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Seasonal Chef Demo with Wine Pairing. Participants watch as a chef creates a recipe from seasonal New York state ingredients and receive a lunch-sized portion paired with two different wines. Cost: $30.

April 7, 3 to 5 p.m., Riesling Expert. Participants taste the best quality examples of New York Riesling and learn how to match Riesling with food. The class includes a tasting of eight wines and a food sampling plate. Cost $40.

April 21, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Wine and Cheese Pairing. Participants sample three New York artisan cheeses paired with three styles of New York wine. Cost: $20.

April 21, 3 to 5 p.m., Wine 101. This class provides “need to know” information about wine, including profiles of major grape varieties and wine styles, how to store and serve wine, detecting common faults, reading labels and ordering in a restaurant. Ten wines are tasted with a small cheese plate. Cost: $40.

April 28, 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Seasonal Chef Demo with Wine Pairing. Participants watch as a chef creates a recipe from seasonal New York state ingredients and receive a lunch-sized portion paired with two different wines. Cost: $30.
