Finger Lakes Chorale to pay tribute to Queen

The Finger Lakes Chorale will perform “We Will Rock You,” a concert featuring Broadway songs and rock and roll music from the ’50s to ’70s, on Saturday, Aug. 20, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 21, at 3 p.m.

The event will be held at Canandaigua Academy, 435 East St., and is free and open to the public.

This year the Finger Lakes Chorale and the rock group Queen are both celebrating their 40th anniversaries. As a tribute to the legendary band, the Chorale will sing a few of its hits, including “We Will Rock You,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Another One Bites the Dust” and “We Are the Champions.”

The ensemble will also perform favorite Beach Boys surf numbers, songs from Broadway’s hit rock musicals “Hair” and “Jesus Christ Superstar” and a medley of 1950s rock classics.

The group’s 125 members come from as far away as Addison in Steuben County and Waterloo in Seneca County and from many other towns and villages in a six-county area.

The Finger Lakes Chorale is hosted by Finger Lakes Community College and is under the direction of Dennis Maxfield, an FLCC adjunct faculty member.

Donations may be given at the door for the Dr. A. John Walker Music Award for FLCC music and music recording students.
