Finger Lakes Community College offers speakers of other languages a chance to improve their English with free classes in Geneva or at home by watching a TV program and working with a tutor.
Students in either program must attend one of the orientation sessions, which are held on Tuesdays at noon at the FLCC Geneva Campus Center, 63 Pulteney St. Advance registration is not necessary. For more information, contact the FLCC adult basic education office at (585) 785-1431.
The TV program, a weekly half-hour comedy/drama titled “Crossroads Café,” will air on FLTV channel 12 at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning Jan. 26. The program also airs on WXXI Channel 21 in Rochester and on WCNY Channel 24 in Syracuse. In addition to learning English from the Cafe characters, viewers gain insight into other aspects of U.S. culture, such as seeking citizenship, renting apartments and finding jobs.
Evening classes for English as a Second Language (ESL) are held at the FLCC Geneva Campus Center, 63 Pulteney St., on Tuesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m.
Day classes will meet at the FLCC Geneva Campus Center, 63 Pulteney St., Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and on Thursdays from 12 to 3 p.m.
