Starting in January, Finger Lakes Community College will offer six-week classes in ballroom dance, Latin dance aerobics and a posture boot camp.
Classes are held in Stage 13 on the second floor of the main campus, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive, at the days and times below.
Introduction to Ballroom and Latin Dance: This course introduces the most popular ballroom dances such as the foxtrot, rumba, swing and waltz. Participants will learn how to navigate the dance floor with a partner and gain the confidence to dance at weddings and social events.
Participants can choose from two sessions: Saturdays, Jan. 15 to Feb. 19, from 11 to 11:55 a.m. or Mondays, Jan. 10 to Feb. 14, from 6 to 6:55 p.m. The cost is $72 per person; a partner is needed.
Latin Dance Aerobics: This course covers the cha cha, samba, salsa, and other Latin dances. A partner is not needed. This is a great low-impact workout for men and women. Participants should wear ballet slippers, socks or dance sneakers.
Classes are Saturdays from Jan. 15 to Feb. 19, from noon to 12:55 p.m. The cost is $36 per person.
Posture Boot Camp: This course for men and women focuses on core strengths to develop posture muscles and foster proper alignment. Pilates, yoga, and dance techniques are combined into a mat workout that will improve body tone and flexibility.
Classes are Mondays from Jan. 10 to Feb. 14, from 5 to 5:55 p.m. The cost is $36 per person.
The instructor for all three classes is Michelle Madore, the 2002 Professional World Exhibition Ballroom Dance Champion. She has a master’s degree in fine arts in dance and choreography and a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology. For more information go to www.RochesterDanceSport.com.
